Job summary

Kiewit is seeking an entry-level Substation Engineer based in Lenexa, KS. You will support design, calculations, and drawings for substation projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV, contributing to EPC efforts and ensuring safety in the construction process.

Ideal candidates hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (ABET) with 0–2 years of experience, FE/EIT eligibility, and familiarity with NEC/NESC/NEMA/IEEE/ANSI standards. Strong communication in English is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited university.
  • 0-2 years of experience performing engineering related duties.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
  • Eligibility to take Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project team in creating all design documents and drawings, including one- and three-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, communications diagrams, wiring diagrams, substation layout plans, sections and detail drawings and mark-ups for project built drawings.
  • Specification development for procurement, installation and testing of substation equipment.
  • Apply engineering application software to complete tasks such as ground grid design, equipment sizing, relay coordination, and electrical studies.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with project lead, customer representatives, and other stakeholders.

Position Overview

As an entry-level Substation Engineer, you will be a part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing electrical calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe.

As part of this team of highly specialized design professionals, you will support a variety of substation, transmission and distribution projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV in both engineering detailed design and Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) projects for clients throughout the country.

District Overview

This position is based out of Lenexa, KS.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA preferred
  • 0-2 years of experience performing engineering related duties
  • Knowledge of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI
  • Eligibility to take Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) license
  • Must be legally authorized to work without requiring sponsorship for employment to begin or continue employment with our company
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluent in the English language
