Job summary

GFT is seeking a Substation Drafter to join our power group in the St. Louis, MO office. This is an onsite position, requiring 5 days per week in office.

You will work with senior staff to learn and strengthen your understanding of designing utility class electrical substations, from 15kV up to 500kV, and contribute to project drawings and protection layouts during design reviews.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or pursuing a related Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in the substation or power industry.
• Demonstrated interest in substation or power engineering through coursework or internships.
• Working knowledge of CADD software and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Prepares Physical Substation Plan and Detail drawings with limited complexity.
• Preparing Protection and Control schematic and wiring layouts.
• Incorporate redline markups from senior staff.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

The successful candidate will have a desire to learn the design aspects of various substation projects from 15kV up to 500kV. You will work with our senior staff to learn and strengthen your understanding of designing utility class electrical substations.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Prepares Physical Substation Plan and Detail drawings with limited complexity in support of broader engineering activities.
• Preparing Protection and Control schematic and wiring layouts.
• Working with our engineers to incorporate redline markups.
• Works within a design group to complete projects.

What you will bring to our firm:

• Associated Degree or pursuing a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 2+ years of related experience in the substation or power industry.
• Demonstrated interest in substation or power engineering through applied academic coursework, internships, or past experiences.
• Working knowledge of CADD Software
• Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
• Good written and verbal communications skills

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $28.00 - $35.00 per hour. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
