Substation Designer – P&C

Job Type: Full-time

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a collaborative, detail‑oriented Substation Designer (CAD Technician) to join a growing energy consulting firm. The Substation Designer will work with the Substation Engineering Team to prepare schematic and associated wiring diagrams for high‑voltage utility substation projects and renewable energy interconnections.

Responsibilities

• Computer‑aided design and drafting of all engineering products and deliverables.
• Collaborate with engineers and other drafters to correct discrepancies in drawings and designs.
• Design functional electrical drawings including operations diagrams, single‑line drawings, three‑line drawings, current and potential schematics, protection and control schematics, communication schematics, alarm schematics, and associated wiring diagrams (point‑to‑point translation).
• Import tables and calculations such as BOMs and apply notes to each drawing.
• Perform self‑checks to ensure accuracy before submitting work to the supervisor or review designee.
• Meet project schedules and quality requirements.
• Complete drawings accurately and efficiently while maintaining high detail and quality.
• Handle multiple projects concurrently and remain flexible to changes in work assignments.
• Assist in the completion of projects through phone or e‑mail correspondence, Microsoft Teams communications, attending meetings, and preparing required project documents.
• Provide interdepartmental support as required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Design & Drafting Technology or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of CAD experience; AutoCAD experience preferred.
• Previous experience drafting schematic and associated wiring drawings for high‑voltage utility substation projects is required.
