We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Substation Designer to join our team at K&A Engineering in Charlotte, NC. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Role Expectations

• Prepare physical layout drawings for substations and produce electrical plans and sections as well as grounding and conduit drawings. Prepare protection & control (P&C) design drawings for substations, including one-lines, three-lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts. Develop bills of material and review engineering drawings, specifications, and vendor documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Responsibilities will include the preparation of the following substation drawings:
  • Substation General Arrangement
  • Substation AIS design
  • Substation Protection & Control One-Line and Three-Line Diagrams
  • P&C Schematics (AC/DC)
  • Relay Panel Layouts and Wiring Diagrams
  • Control Building Layouts for P&C Equipment
  • Substation Electrical Equipment Plans
  • Substation Section Views (Elevations)
  • Substation Detailed Bill of Material
  • Substation Grounding Plan
  • Substation Conduit, Electrical Connection and Grounding Details
  • Substation Below Grade Conduit/Raceway Plan
  • Control Building Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting, Grounding Plans and Section

What We’re Looking For

• 2 year associates degree in engineering technology or drafting is preferred
• Experience in utility substation design or EPC projects is a plus
• Deep understanding of substation physical design, protection/control design, and equipment specifications.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar CAD tools.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, vendor data, and technical documents.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Pay Range $65,000-75,000/year
