Actalent, a global engineering and sciences services firm, is seeking a Substation Designer to develop construction drawings for substations and mentor junior designers. Based in New Albany, OH, this role focuses on creating 2-D layouts and 3-D models using MicroStation or Autodesk Inventor under guidance from a Design Engineer.

You will produce single-line diagrams, station location plans, grounding and cable layouts, and ensure drawings meet project standards.

Formación

• Six years designing physical layouts, equipment layouts, plan/elevation/section views and BOMs.
• Six years design experience using Autodesk Inventor.
• Experience checking design packages preferred.
• AAS in drafting/CAD or related engineering technology or equivalent.

• Produce 2-D/3-D layouts of parts and assemblies.
• Update models to reflect design changes.
• Create or modify drawings such as single-line diagrams, station location plans, grounding/cable layouts.
• Use ProjectWise to track design modifications.
• Serve as SME for Substation Design and mentor less experienced designers.
• Coordinate with other departments on project design.
• Check and validate drawings for the project and peers.
• Function as project lead on small projects with limited guidance.

The position falls within the substation department of the organization. The designer will develop construction drawings for substations projects. They will supervise and mentor lower level designers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• With scoping information and general guidance from Design Engineer, develop a substation design layout

• Independently develop 2-D drawings and 3-D models of electrical substation features and components, such as transformers, circuit breakers, etc. using MicroStation or AutoDesk Inventor.

• Develop layout of parts and assemblies in 2-D and 3-D

• Modify and/ or update existing models, assemblies, and layouts to reflect changes to the design

• Work with part naming and numbering conventions; and file naming and management protocols

• Create or modify physical drawings such as single line diagrams, station location plans, electrical assemblies, cable and conduit plans, cable schedules, grounding plans, duct bank designs and layouts, and other details and drawings that will provide sufficient detail and information to construct an electrical substation with minimal guidance of project lead engineer

• Use ProjectWise for project documentation to track all design modifications and new designs

• Handle complex projects without supervision

• Coordinate with people from other departments who are involved in a design project

• Supervise and mentor less experienced designers

• Check and validate drawings for the project and the drawings of peers and subordinates

• Will be considered a Subject Matter Expert for Substation Design

• Function as project lead on small, less complicated projects with little guidance from an engineer

• Work under supervision of engineers

Education and Experience Requirements

• Six years of experience designing physical layouts, equipment layouts, plan views, elevation views, section views, and creating detailed bills of material

• Six years of design experience using Autodesk Inventor

• Experience checking design packages preferred.

• Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer aided (CAD) design or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology or equivalent experience and/or education

This is a Permanent position based out of New Albany, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
