Job summary

Xcel Energy invites you to join its Electrical Engineering internship program. You will work with substation engineering and design staff, gaining practical experience in one-line diagrams, basic calculations, and data validation.

As a sophomore or junior in an ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering program, you will balance 10–20 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week in the summer, with MS Office proficiency and strong communication skills expected.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an Electrical Engineering ABET-accredited program
• Sophomore or Junior classification
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to communicate effectively; both written and verbally
• Must be self- motivated, have good mechanical aptitude, and ability to work well with others
• Must be able to work 10-20 hours per week while school is in session and 40 hours per week when school is out of session
• Preferred coursework in Power Transmission & Distribution and interest in the power industry desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist with drawing updates, design packages, and standards documentation
• Perform basic engineering calculations and data validation
• Participate in design reviews and coordination meetings
• Support site visit preparation and documentation (limited field exposure)

Work with substation engineering and design staff to support high voltage substation design projects, budget estimate creation, and NERC compliance activities. Successful candidate will gain practical engineering experience and have the opportunity to further develop their communication and interpersonal skills. The intern will work part-time (10-20 hours/week) during the academic school year and full-time (40 hours/week) during the summer.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Non-Bargaining The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $21.20 to $25.00 per hourThis position is eligible for the following benefits:
