Job summary

Mesa Associates, Inc. seeks a Substation Physical Design Engineer to assist in developing design packages for 12kV-500kV substations and switchyards, including general arrangements, equipment plans, and grounding design. You will draft with AutoCAD or MicroStation and prepare scopes of work and BOMs for project support.

The role involves potential site visits, bid-package estimation, and mentoring junior staff, with opportunities to cross-train in related disciplines and pursue PE licensure.

Qualifications

• May participate in site visits.
• Scope of Work Write-up and Bill of Materials will be created to support the design.
• May also complete Lightning Studies, Illumination Studies, Rigid Bus Evaluations, and Conduit Fill Calculations.
• Desire/interest to cross-train in additional disciplines for professional growth.
• Able to obtain PE license.
• Must complete assignments within budget and schedule with high accuracy to provide quality deliverables.
• Willingness to work overtime as required for customers’ needs.
• Mentor other designers/engineers in group to increase knowledge of physical substation design.
• May be designated to check/review other personnel work for accuracy/adherence to client/ standards.
• Independently evaluate, select and apply engineering principles and practices relevant to the project requirements.

Responsibilities
