Job summary

County of Mendocino is seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor to provide support services in adult or adolescent programs, screen assessments, and develop treatment plans; roles include counseling, case management, crisis response, and documentation.

Positions cover Fort Bragg, Willits and Ukiah; field-based and collaborative with behavioral health staff. Requires HS diploma, enrollment in AOD certification, valid driver’s license, and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and enrollment in AOD certification.
• 1 year of full-time experience in substance abuse counseling or internship.
• Within five years, obtain California ADP certification.
• Valid Driver’s License and related certifications desirable.

Responsibilities

• Counsel clients individually or in groups to support treatment goals.
• Assist in case management: schedule appointments, screen, orient clients.
• Develop treatment plans, provide ongoing supportive counseling, document progress.
• Maintain safe environment and participate in team meetings.
• Refer/enroll clients to related programs and assist with eligibility forms.
• Enter data into organizational systems and generate reports.
