Day in the Life of a Substance Abuse Counselor
- Provides individual counseling to highly complex patients
- Conducts clinical assessments to appropriately assess patient’s treatment needs
- Designs and updates the patient’s treatment plan, including care coordination, referrals, and discharge planning
- Manages assigned caseload and compliance with clinical treatment requirements
- Collaborates with nurses and providers to provide holistic treatment services
- Facilitates urine drug screening for patients
Schedule and Hours
- Early morning schedule with early afternoon out times. Expected participation in a rotating Saturday shift (frequency depends on current staff count).
- Expected hours: 37–40 per week
- Typical days: 4:45AM – 1:00PM, Monday–Friday; rotating Saturdays 5:30AM – 10:30AM.
Education and Experience Requirements
- General experience working with underserved populations in a clinical setting.
- Lived addiction experience is a plus.
Qualified candidates will hold one or more of the following certifications/licenses:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred (but not required).
- CADC, LevelI (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, LevelI)
- CADC II, LevelII (Certified Alcohol and Drug CounselorII, LevelII)
- CAADC (Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor)
- CACI (Certified Addiction CounselorI)
- CACII (Certified Addiction CounselorII)
- MAC (Master Addiction Counselor)
- National Certified Addiction Counselor, LevelI (NCACI)
- National Certified Addiction Counselor, LevelII (NCACII)
- LPC, LAPC, LMSW
