Job summary

Mesa County is seeking a qualified substance abuse counselor to provide on-site treatment and educational services to clients referred from the Criminal Justice Services Department. The role involves assessments, individual and group therapy, and collaboration with referring agencies.

Responsibilities include maintaining records, coordinating services, and responding to crisis situations within the mental health system.

Qualifications

• Oral and written communications must be clear and effective.

Responsibilities

• Completes substance abuse assessments and evaluations for clients.
• Provides individual and group substance abuse treatment.
• Participates in the treatment team and updates progress records.
• Ensures record maintenance per guidelines (Colorado BHA, Division of Criminal Justice).
• Coordinates and provides educational and therapeutic services for participants.
• Responds to mental health crises and coordinates referrals.
• Assists in curriculum development and policy implementation.
• Serves as liaison between community providers and CJ Services staff.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills

Oral and written communication

Education

Bachelor’s degree in social or behavioral sciences

Master’s degree and pursuing licensure (LMFT, LPC, LCSW, LAC)

Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) or ability to obtain CAS within six months

Colorado Driver’s License
