Job summary

Community Medical Services in Arizona is seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor to support patients recovering from opioids and other substances. This outpatient role involves individual and group sessions, developing treatment plans, and patient education.

You will manage a caseload in compliance with regulations, collaborate with care teams, and contribute to a compassionate recovery environment. We offer full-time benefits and a stable Monday–Friday shift.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED plus 2 years of qualifying education, behavioral health experience, or a combination of both.
• Associate degree plus 2 years full-time behavioral health work experience.
• Bachelor's degree plus 1 year full-time behavioral health work experience.
• Master's or Bachelor's degree in a behavioral health-related field.
• Knowledge of behavioral management, de-escalation methods, crisis intervention, and defusing techniques to prevent violent behavior harmful to self or others and the ability to apply these techniques to a client population in various levels of crisis.
• Academic and working knowledge of DSM-5, community resources, clinical methods and procedures and application of the same

Responsibilities

• Maintain and manage a caseload in compliance with regulatory standards and ratios.
• Conduct individual sessions, facilitate group counseling and didactic educational presentations.
• Complete comprehensive behavioral health assessments and individualized treatment plans, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and client needs.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment through ongoing assessment of client and supports, adjusting service plans as needed.
• Coordinate care with recovery and community-based providers and document referrals and chart entries.
• Include family and natural supports in the client’s treatment when preferred by the client.
• Maintain current knowledge of developments in substance use treatment and licensure requirements.
• Build professional relationships with other substance use professionals and programs.
• Maintain thorough and comprehensive client records.
• Serve as the point of contact for coordination with other systems requiring clinical input.
• Assist in screening and coordinating primary care services for clients.

To thrive in this role, you must be able to:

• Maintain a collegian relationship with other substance use professionals, programs, and associations.
• Maintain a thorough and comprehensive client record.
• Serve as the point of contact for coordination and communication with other systems where clinical knowledge of the case is crucial.
• Assist in screening and coordinating primary care services for clients.
