Job summary

The GEO Group, Inc. is hiring at our California facility to provide substance abuse counseling within a corrections-focused program. You will deliver didactic education, group and individual counseling, and help select instructional materials for residents.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, 3+ years of counseling with a criminal justice population, and relevant certifications (AOD, OMCP). Bilingual English/Spanish and strong teamwork are valued in our mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 3+ years counseling with a criminal justice population preferred.
• Certified AOD Counselor Certification by a California DHCS-approved agency.
• Offender Mentor Certification Program (OMCP) with AOD Certification may be considered.
• Bi-lingual English/Spanish may be required; strong communication skills.
• Ability to work with a team and use standard department software.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of three (3) years of full time experience of counseling duties with a criminal justice population in a substance abuse program preferred.
• Certified AOD Counselor Certification by an agency approved and recognized by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS).
• Additionally, applicants who have completed the Offender Mentor Certification Program (OMCP) and having obtained AOD Certification may be considered for this position.
• Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with a team of professionals and have the ability to implement team strategy approaches to work assignments.
• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
• Effective communication skills with internal and external contacts at all levels.
• Problem solving ability.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Bi-lingual skills (English/Spanish) may be required as well as experience dealing with specific cultural group.

Physical Requirements

In this position, you will frequently have to lift or carry up to 20 lbs. Candidates should also be able to bend, stoop, walk, and stand (31-60% of the time). You will also occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.
