Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat seeks an SSNA Propulsion Plant Electrical Systems Engineer to join the propulsion team in Groton, CT. The role focuses on developing electric plant concepts for the next generation of UK submarines using power electronics and advanced modeling.

The engineer will perform trade studies, component analyses, and vendor coordination while collaborating across disciplines to deliver first-time-quality propulsion solutions on schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Applied Math, Nuclear Engineering or CS.
• 0–5 years of engineering experience.
• Ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Support development of the SSNA electric plant for the next generation submarine.
• Perform design, performance, cost and ship trade studies.
• Analyze key components and interface development.
• Develop and use electric plant models (Matlab/Simulink).
• Manage vendor efforts: scoping, document reviews, and performance tracking.
• Leverage lessons learned to optimize propulsion system designs.
