Job summary

Torch Technologies seeks a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Radar Systems Design Engineer to support advanced defense programs. You will perform system-level evaluations, conduct test execution, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex radar challenges.

The role requires a DoD SECRET clearance, US citizenship, and a strong track record in radar/sensor systems across the full lifecycle, with readiness to engage in on-site work at defense facilities and participate in IPT/TIM

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 15+ years of progressively complex software engineering experience.
  • DoW SECRET clearance required.
  • Ability to communicate to senior leadership and influence vendor roadmaps.
  • Experience supporting large-scale system testing in rugged Army environments.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans and reports to ensure system and software operations meet requirements and design specs.
  • Perform system-level analysis to identify performance issues and optimization opportunities.
  • Perform detailed performance analyses and recommend architectural or algorithmic improvements.
  • Translate technical requirements into test cases for live-fire or simulation environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Support troubleshooting across distributed systems and infrastructure.
  • Assist in planning and engineering tasks to meet program deadlines.
  • Provide strategic technical direction during IPT meetings with vendors to ensure alignment.
  • Advise on technical agenda items during TIMs with vendors, driving design maturity.
  • Participate in engineering and record testing at Army test facilities (e.g., YPG, WSMR).

Torch Technologies is seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Radar Systems Design Engineer to support advanced defense and engineering programs. This role involves performing system-level evaluations and contributing to mission-critical test execution in a fast-paced, technical environment. The ideal candidate has a strong analytical and problem-solving skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to solve complex engineering challenges.

As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Radar Systems Design Engineer your duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Reviewing plans and reports to ensure system and software operations comply with requirements and design specifications.
  • Perform system-level analysis to identify performance issues and optimization opportunities.
  • Performing detailed performance analyses, generating actionable insights, and recommending architectural or algorithmic improvements.
  • Translate technical requirements into test cases for live-fire or simulation environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts across distributed systems and infrastructure.
  • Assist in planning and engineering tasks to meet program deadlines.
  • Provide strategic technical direction and oversight during weekly Integrated Product Team (IPT) meetings with vendors to ensure design alignment and milestone adherence.
  • Advise on the technical agenda items during weekly Test Planning meetings with the project office, ensuring test objectives are comprehensive and program goals are met.
  • Advise as technical authority at Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with vendors, resolving complex engineering conflicts and driving design maturity.
  • Participate in engineering and record testing at Army test facilities, which may include Yuma Proving Grounds (YPG) and White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), providing real-time technical evaluation and on-site decision-making.
Required Qualifications:
  • US Citizenship.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: 15+ years of progressively complex software engineering experience.
  • A proven track record of designing and deploying complex radar/sensor systems; recognized expertise in the full system lifecycle.
  • Ability to communicate directly to senior leadership at times and influence vendor technical roadmaps.
  • Extensive experience supporting large-scale system testing, validation, and verification in ruggedized Army environments.
  • Candidate must currently possess a DoW SECRET clearance.
