The Vice President for International Affairs and the teams of staffin OVPIA's offices are the stewards of international activityacross all campuses of Indiana University. The mission of IU Education Abroad is to promote education abroadby Indiana University students through participation in qualityprograms in a wide range of disciplines. The purpose is to enhanceinternational awareness and understanding and enrich curricula onevery campus of the university, as well as to expand educationalopportunities abroad for students from broad-ranging backgrounds.As the most effective and dramatic experience by which students canachieve international and intercultural learning, education abroadwill contribute significantly to careers in all fields ofspecialization and should be an integral part of an education atIndiana University.

Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Advises students in person and electronically aboutapproximately 100 active IU and external (non-IU) education abroadprograms and procedures, and other experiential activities.
- Counsels students regarding education abroad program costs, thetransferability of existing IU financial assistance, and studyabroad-specific scholarship opportunities.
- Works directly with students exploring participation inexternal (non-IU) programs; reviews application paperwork andacademic records to determine eligibility; accurately authorizesstudents for registration in special course numbers; conductsdebriefings; and verifies successful transfer of full-time credit.May serve as the lead for managing data and records, as well ascommunicating IU recruiting policies and procedures to non-IUprovider organizations.
- Represents IU Education Abroad in professional groups and tostudent organizations and travels internationally as needed tobecome familiar with Indiana University program sites.
- Evaluates application dossiers; maintains the student database;and assists in hiring, training, and working with 6-12 student peercounselors.
- Initiates and supports student outreach and recruitmentactivities in support of increasing participation in educationabroad programming.
- Works closely with advisors and faculty on campus andabroad.
- Roles above the Core career level may include expanded dutiesand leadership and/or higher expectations of performance in linewith the campus and the national advising ecosystem.
General Responsibilities
- Provides academic counseling for students pursuing orconsidering majors, minors, or certificates. Guides students inplanning their course of study in concert with the departments'curricular requirements. Explains curriculum requirements andschool and campus policies.
- Meets with students in groups and 1-on-1 to guide students inacademic programs that will meet their educational needs and therequirements of their chosen major, minor, and/or certificate.
- Assists students in making informed decisions about a choice ofmajor and potential career or graduate school direction. Helpsstudents to assess their interests, values, and academic skills andto understand these in relation to major choice and potentialfuture career/graduate school options.
- Teaches students how to navigate university systems, academicprocesses, and policies. Empowers student accountability inacademic decisions about courses, career direction, and long-termplans. Provides guidance on avenues for increased involvement as anIU student and in the IU community.
- Refers students to appropriate campus resources, such asacademic support resources, placement programs, internship andoverseas study opportunities, etc.
- Tracks and monitors students' academic progress, reviews andmaintains confidential student records to ensure that students meetrequirements and to document advising discussions, and communicatesthis information in a timely manner to students and to appropriateacademic offices when necessary.
- Represents the advising function as a presenter at campusmeetings and recruiting functions. Assists in developing writtenadvising materials for use in student events.
- Researches, recommends, or creates best practices for unit orcampus initiatives, projects, processes, or programs and mayprovide guidance to other Academic Advisors.
Qualifications
Combinations of related education and experience may beconsidered. Education beyond the minimum required may besubstituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimumrequired may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required
- Master's degree in related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years in student affairs, teaching, academic advising, orrelated field. Experience in a student-focused, higher educationenvironment is highly desired.
Preferred
- 3 years in student affairs, teaching, academic advising, orrelated field.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and tooperate a computer and other standard office productivityequipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periodsof time moving around an office environment and the campus. Theperson in this role must be able to perform the essential functionswith or without an accommodation.

FergusonInternational Center
This position will work primarily in-person from the newlyconstructed Ferguson International Center. After an initial periodof training, this position may be eligible to work a hybridschedule (mix between remote and in-person work). Approval forhybrid work is dependent upon the work needs of the department andis subject to change based on university policy and businessneeds.
Advertised Salary
$47,500.00 - 51,000.00 depending on relevant skills andexperience.
