Job summary

Sumitomo Electric is seeking a Studio Engineer (Contract) for the Metro Detroit area to support interior and exterior surface development. You will work with the Design Studio from sketch through to the final surface release, coordinating with Design and Vehicle Engineering to resolve conflicts and ensure feasibility of design concepts.

• Ensure packaging standards and legal requirements are implemented.
• Provide technical input for design evolution and validation.
• Assist in feasibility studies for components and system integration.
• Create reports assessing design themes against master sections.

Job description

Position Title: Studio Engineer

Duration: Contract

Location: Metro Detroit, USA

Essential Criteria:

• Support surface development for the Interior and Exterior Surfaces
• Support of the Design Studio from the sketch phase through the entire Design process including final surface release
• Working closely with the design team and other departments to manage upcoming issues and escalating unresolved issues to the next level
• Responsible for liaising with the Vehicle Engineering team to communicate Design intent and for highlighting and communicating conflicts between Product engineering and Design and negotiating solutions to support Design maturation
• Ensuring packaging standards and legal requirements are implemented and adhered to
• Responsible for deploying hard points, criteria and technical input and supporting the Design team to evolve the Design theme based on them
• Responsible for validation of technical input prior to transfer to Design and Modelling teams
• Responsible for providing feasibility supporting the design, development and integration of components and systems within specified areas of the vehicle
• Responsible for creation of reports which assess various style themes against the master sections using the appropriate company proces
