Studio Analyst, Scripps Sports - WMYD (Creative Design)

WMYD Detroit is seeking a knowledgeable and engaging Studio Analyst, Sports to provide expert commentary and analysis on sports events, teams, and athletes in studio and during live broadcasts. This role is responsible for delivering detailed, insightful, and engaging commentary that enhances the audience experience across television, streaming, radio, and digital platforms.

The ideal candidate combines deep sports knowledge, strong analytical skills, and exceptional communication abilities to explain game action, player performance, and strategic developments in an informative and entertaining manner while helping shape Scripps Sports programming and coverage.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Provide in-depth analysis and commentary on sports games, tournaments, championships, and other sporting events.
  • Deliver live, detailed, and engaging commentary across television, streaming, radio, and digital broadcasts.
  • Narrate key plays, game strategies, and momentum shifts to provide additional context and insight for viewers.
  • Break down player performance, team strategies, and game dynamics in a clear, engaging, and easy-to-understand manner.
  • Provide pre-game, in-game, halftime, and post-game analysis, highlighting critical moments and factors that influence outcomes.
  • Collaborate with producers, hosts, commentators, and fellow analysts to develop segment ideas, storylines, and engaging broadcast content.
  • Conduct research and prepare detailed reports on teams, athletes, statistics, trends, and upcoming games to support informed analysis.
  • Engage with viewers through social media platforms and interactive digital experiences, providing insights and responding to audience questions.
  • Participate in live chats, Q&A sessions, and other audience engagement initiatives to strengthen viewer connection and interaction.
  • Appear on network programs including pre-game shows, halftime reports, post-game analysis segments, and other sports programming.
  • Participate in special features, documentaries, and sports-related content initiatives as assigned.
  • Stay informed of sports news, league developments, industry trends, player movement, and emerging storylines.
  • Leverage advanced statistics, analytics, and research tools to provide deeper insights and enhance audience understanding.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, broadcasting, sports media, or a related discipline preferred, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Generally, 5+ years of experience in sports broadcasting, sports journalism, commentary, analysis, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with advanced sports analytics and statistical analysis.
  • Experience providing live commentary, sports analysis, or expert opinions in a broadcast, streaming, or digital environment preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and non-traditional schedules based on sports programming requirements.

  • Adaptability and confidence in fast-paced live production environments.
  • Commitment to journalistic integrity, professionalism, and high-quality sports coverage.
  • Multilingual abilities, particularly in languages relevant to the sports covered by the network, preferred.
  • Familiarity with video editing, content production workflows, and post-production processes preferred.
