Job Summary

To use and maintain equipment and supplies necessary to administer radiographic exams to patients, under the indirect supervision of a radiologist or physician and in accordance with established federal and UMMC procedures.

Education & Experience

Must have completed one semester of training at an accredited Radiologic Technology (RT) program and currently be a student in good standing at an accredited Radiologic Technology (RT) program.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of x‑ray principles, procedures, and standards; knowledge of the physical and operational characteristics of radiologic equipment; verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and other team members; ability to configure and adjust x‑ray equipment; ability to alleviate patient anxiety; ability to understand and comply with applicable safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Administers radiographic exams under a radiologist's or physician's request and supervision.
• Prepares room and positions patient to obtain optimum view.
• Positions equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance.
• Uses bean‑restrictive devices and patient‑shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patient and self.
• Maintains stock supplies; performs general office duties such as delivering and retrieving film, typing forms, scheduling patients, and maintaining records.
• Explains procedures to patients to alleviate anxiety and obtain cooperation.
