Job summary

Texas A&M International University is seeking a Student Worker for the Office of Student Affairs in Laredo. The position offers hands-on learning through community engagement activities and grant-funded initiatives with the Lopez Foundation.

On-campus, in-person work supports student services and program operations. The student will assist in events, outreach, and data collection while developing professional skills and maintaining eligibility requirements.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Summary

The goal is to provide experiential learning opportunities aligned with the objectives of the Hector and Gloria Lopez Foundation while developing professional skills through hands‑on work. Position may be an off campus with a community partner organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assisting with the planning, coordination, and implementation of educational and community engagement activities. Supporting outreach initiatives and special projects that advance the goals of the Lopez Foundation grant. Working directly with students, community members, or partner organizations to provide program support and customer service. Assisting with event planning, workshops, presentations, and participant engagement. Conducting research, gathering information, and preparing reports or presentations related to grant activities. Creating communication and marketing materials, including social media content, flyers, newsletters, and other outreach resources. Maintaining program records, tracking participation, and assisting with data collection and assessment activities. Collaborating with university staff and community partners on project implementation and problem‑solving. Performing administrative and operational tasks necessary to support grant‑funded initiatives. Participating in professional development, leadership training, and reflective learning activities associated with the internship experience. Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Enrolled at least half‑time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates. Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students. Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proficiency in use of personal computer workstation with common software applications. Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines. Outstanding customer service skills. Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills. Problem analysis and problem‑solving skills. Ability to learn and use multiple software programs.

Other Requirements

Position requires on campus, face‑to‑face interactions. Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule. Promptly complete all required trainings. Submit time sheet biweekly. Subject to funding and/or need. Reliable transportation. All positions are security‑sensitive. To be eligible for Student Employment:

Undergraduate Students

• Undergraduate student must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester of college‑level courses or accepted remedial courses.
• International undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours to meet the federal immigration guidelines.
• Must maintain a 2.0 TAMIU overall GPA.

Graduate Students:

• Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours per semester.
• International graduate students must enroll in 9 semester credit hours in order to meet the federal immigration guidelines.
• Must maintain a 3.0 TAMIU overall GPA.

Students who will be graduating may enroll for less than half time for their final semester. Must submit proof of graduation.
