Overview
Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Student Surplus Services Eco Rep to support the Office of Sustainability in reducing waste and promoting circular economy practices. The position involves managing surplus inventory, facilitating reuse and donation programs, engaging the campus community, and collecting data on program effectiveness.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collect, sort, organize, and track surplus items from campus departments and events.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of donated, transferred, and redistributed materials.
- Support inventory audits, storage organization, and monitor inventory levels for efficiency.
- Coordinate surplus item exchanges, donations, and redistribution programs.
- Identify items suitable for reuse, donation, recycling, or responsible disposal.
- Promote circular economy principles through operational and educational activities.
- Interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners to locate and acquire available surplus items.
- Build relationships with departments to increase participation in reuse programs.
- Educate community members about waste reduction opportunities.
- Track program metrics, conduct data entry, recordkeeping, and impact reporting.
- Create reports, summaries, and visualizations that communicate program outcomes.
- Promote surplus services through tabling events, social media, newsletters, and educational campaigns.
- Assist with planning and implementing special surplus collection events, donation drives, and reuse initiatives.
- Collaborate with campus departments and support the Office of Sustainability in program visibility.
- Contribute ideas for improving the effectiveness and visibility of surplus programs.
Qualifications
- Current SNHU student in good academic standing.
- Interest in sustainability, waste reduction, reuse, or resource conservation.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and maintain accurate records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with inventory management and customer service.
- Experience volunteering or participating in sustainability initiatives.
- Knowledge of waste reduction, recycling, circular economy, or resource management concepts.
- Experience using spreadsheets or inventory tracking systems.
- Experience planning events, coordinating projects, or supporting outreach efforts.

Work Schedule / Hours
10 hours a week, Monday–Friday, with nights and weekends as needed for event staffing.
Compensation
Hourly pay range: $13.00 – $15.00, based on skills, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
