Job summary

Champaign Unit 4 Schools seeks a Student Support Advocate to provide safety and support to students at International Prep Academy. This part-time 7.0 hours/day role requires empathy, strong communication, and the ability to engage with students, staff, and families from diverse backgrounds.

The SSA supports crisis responses, maintains composure, and may participate in supervised physical interventions when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Training in social work, education, or related field.
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse racial, linguistic, cultural backgrounds.
  • Calm, non-confrontational demeanor in crisis situations.
  • Willingness to physically intervene if needed.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Google Suite.
  • Willingness to attend regular professional trainings.

Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree or higher (preferred)
  • Training in a human relations field such as Social Work, Community Psychology, Education, Child Development and/or work or life experience in a related field
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, and parents from a variety of racial, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Ability to remain calm and non-confrontational with students in crisis
  • Ability and willingness to physically intervene in student confrontations
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite
  • Willingness to attend professional trainings on a regular basis
Compensation
  • The hourly wage for this position is determined based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Champaign Educational Support Professionals, which is available on our website. The District gives experienced employees up to 20 years of experience credit for service outside the District if it is directly related to their position. 100% of an employee's contributions to IMRF are currently paid by the Board of Education. The Board also pays 100% of employee-only health and term life insurance. There is a minimal employee cost for vision insurance. Dental is also available at competitive rates to interested employees. There are opportunities for employees to earn additional compensation during the regular school year and in the summer.
