Job summary

Somerton Middle School is seeking a Student Supervision Aide to support a safe and secure school environment. You will supervise students across campus, enforce safety rules, and assist with orderly movement and access control, including greeting students as they arrive each morning.

This role requires a High School diploma or equivalent, and offers a non-exempt, full-time schedule with a 9-month calendar and full benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates safety and security rules to students and visitors for understanding and compliance.

  • Monitors and checks campus gates during the day to maintain security.
  • Oversees students in various settings (parking lot, hallways, bathrooms, etc.) for safety and behavior aligned with rules.
  • Opens campus gates to allow student entry for safe arrival and controlled access.
  • Greets students outside before school to create a welcoming environment.
  • Reports incidents to appropriate site personnel for follow-up.
  • Responds to inquiries in emergencies or incidents to provide assistance and follow-up.

TYPE: Classified STATUS: Non-Exempt SALARY LEVEL: $15.15 (9 month position, Full Benefit Package) WORK CALENDAR: 191 day, 7 hours per day START DATE: August 2026

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

Purpose Statement The job of Student Supervision Aide is done for the purpose/s of supporting a safe and secure school environment; supervising students in various campus settings; enforcing school safety rules and expectations; assisting with orderly student movement throughout the campus; monitoring campus access points; responding to incidents and emergencies; reporting concerns to appropriate personnel; and supporting student accountability through the use of monitoring tools and procedures.

Essential Functions
  • Communicates safety and security rules to students and visitors for the purpose of ensuring understanding of expectations and promoting compliance with established policies and procedures, including awareness of potential consequences for violations.
  • Escorts students to the classroom or designated area for the purpose of ensuring student safety and maintaining orderly movement throughout the campus.
  • Intervenes in potential conflicts and emergency situations for the purpose of minimizing disruptions of campus activities and/or injury to involved parties.
  • Monitors and checks campus gates during the school day to ensure they remain securely locked for the purpose of maintaining campus security, preventing unauthorized access, and ensuring the safety of students and staff.
  • Monitors students in a variety of school settings (e.g. parking lot, bathrooms, hallways, between classes, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student safety and welfare and maintaining appropriate student behavior in accordance with school rules and expectations.
  • Opens campus gates to allow students to enter the school grounds for the purpose of facilitating safe and orderly arrival and ensuring controlled access.
  • Remains outside of the school before the start of the day to greet students as they arrive for the purpose of promoting a welcoming environment and supporting student supervision.
  • Reports incidents to appropriate site personnel (e.g. personal injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, rule violations, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring follow-up in accordance with administrative, site security, and student safety guidelines.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of situations (e.g. accidents, injuries, vandalism, suspicious activities, etc.) for the purpose of addressing immediate concerns, providing assistance, and ensuring appropriate follow-up in accordance with school procedures.
  • Supervises students during after-school activities for the purpose of ensuring student safety and maintaining appropriate behavior and order.
  • Uses district-authorized devices to verify student passes when they are outside the classroom and to confirm their destination and activity for the purpose of monitoring student movement, ensuring proper authorization, and maintaining a safe and orderly campus environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the eHicient and eHective functioning of the school.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: policies, regulations, and rules; behavior and crisis management techniques; and safety practices and procedures.
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: using pertinent equipment; adhering to safety practices; and enforcing rules and regulations.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; diffusing argumentative behavior; demonstrating patience and a receptive attitude toward students; maintaining confidentiality; working well independently and collaboratively with others; and displaying excellent tact and courtesy.

Responsibility Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions.

Work Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 35% walking, and 55% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in some varying atmospheric conditions.

Experience: Job related experience is desired.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Clearances: Criminal Background Check, MMR Clearance, IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
