Position Summary:

The Student Success Specialist (Student Conduct & Care) is a full-time staff position within the Student Affairs Division responsible for fostering student success through relational, restorative, and discipleship-oriented student conduct interventions and student support. This role supports the fair and consistent administration of the university’s student conduct policies while facilitating student accountability, character formation, and governance initiatives in alignment with Houston Christian University’smission and values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Affairs Collaboration & Campus Engagement:
    • Actively participate in campus life and serve as a visible resource for students by engaging with Student Affairs and University departments to promote holistic student development.
    • Work in partnership with Athletics and Spiritual Life to cultivate a culture of accountability, integrity, and positive formation among students, including student-athletes.
    • Collaborate on Student Affairs Division goals related to student engagement, retention, and persistence to graduation by assessing and implementing campus-wide initiatives.
    • Work closely with the Gideon Counseling Center, Accommodation Services, Title IX Coordinator, HCU Police, and Residence Life to coordinate the student conduct or care processes as needed.
  • Student Conduct & Care Case Management:
    • Investigate and adjudicate student conduct cases as a Student Conduct Administrator
    • Manage care reports to support students of concern who are in crisis or difficult situations in collaboration with other staff and/or Care Team.
    • Ensure that care and student conduct cases are promptly addressed and properly documented, working closely with staff members to facilitate student well-being and intervention.
    • Train and support Student Affairs staff in handling conduct and care case adjudication
    • Appropriately use the Symplicity Advocate system or similar databases, managing records and student information.
  • Assist with the development, updating, and enforcement of the HCU Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.
  • Lead training sessions for faculty, staff, and student leaders on student conduct processes, policies, and expectations.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with university policies and external regulations related to student conduct and/or Title IXmatters.
  • Administrative & Additional Responsibilities:
    • Meet regularly with the Director of Student Conduct and Care & Title IX Coordinator to discuss cases, policies, and any other relevant matters.
    • Collaborate with student workers or professional staff involved in student conduct processes.
    • Stay informed on best practices in student conduct & care administration, including faith-based disciplinary approaches and student development.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
    • Preferred: Master’s degree in Student Development, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Christian Education, or a related field.
  • Experience & Skills:
    • Commitment to the Christian ministry and mission of Houston Christian University
    • Demonstrated experience working with university students, particularly those with at-risk indicators or behavioral concerns.
    • Ability to follow a detailed process and document steps for compliance with policies and/or laws.
    • Strong understanding of student development theory, particularly in relation to student conduct and behavioral interventions.
    • Proficiency in Symplicity Advocate or similar case management software.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communicationskills with a proven ability to work collaboratively across departments.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion, confidentiality, professionalism, and a commitment to educational or restorative approaches.
    • Ability to be available for occasional night and weekend programming as needed.
