Teacher Support Compensation Plan

Shift Type: Full-Time

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports To: Principal/Central At-Risk Administrator

This position is funded through State Compensatory Education program monies and will be evaluated at the end of each year based on availability of funds.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

To plan, develop, and implement an effective instructional program in a way that includes the best use of research findings, time, space, available technology, financial and community resources, so that student achievement will be maximized.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree with appropriate state certification for subject and level assigned.
  • Texas Teacher Certificate.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
  • Demonstrate a cognitive understanding of the subject matter and pedagogical skills in his/her teaching field.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Exhibit excellent public relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrate highly effective organizational and consensus building skills.
  • Understand the value of planning and demonstrate ability to develop and implement short and long‑range instructional plans based on effective instructional strategies, knowledge of the discipline, student needs and performance, the global society, the community, and the curriculum.
  • Understand the various learning styles and show competence in developing and delivering instruction appropriate to students' developmental needs.
  • Understanding cultural diversity through providing instruction appropriate to diverse cultures and populations, learning styles, and background experiences.
  • Understand how to develop a variety of instructional strategies, technologies, resources, and techniques for problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Possess knowledge for critiquing, constructing, and utilizing multiple forms of appropriate assessment techniques to monitor progress, modify and adapt instruction, and set goals.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills and techniques, including verbal, nonverbal, and media communication that are sensitive to student differences and needs.
  • Possess basic understanding of the impact of technology in assigned curricular areas.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of the MISD.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE
  • No required experience beyond certification from an accredited teacher preparation program.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications may be found appropriate by the Administration.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Plan, organize, and provide appropriate learning experiences within the assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest, and abilities of students.
  • Guide learning process toward the achievement of established district curricula goals.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of individuals or student groups involved.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly, provide progress reports as required, and communicate with parents as deemed necessary.
  • Identify at‑risk students.
  • Design and implement instruction specifically for at‑risk students to enable their success.
  • Identify the special needs of students and seek assistance of others as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to IEP guidelines.
  • Develop a student behavior plan consistent with administrative policies.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Be available to students daily and make appointments with parents as necessary.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides, volunteers, and student teachers, and provide written evaluation as required.
  • Maintain a continuous professional growth program that fulfills district requirements and personal professional expectations.
  • Participate in the district‑approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to a mutually agreed evaluation outcome.
  • Attend campus and district meetings to promote communication and decision making among staff.
  • Attend school‑sponsored activities such as Student Orientations, Open House, and other program activities per building principal and faculty agreement.
  • Check schedules of seniors who have not passed all parts of the state assessment, ensuring they enroll in appropriate remediation or acceleration classes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SECONDARY SCE TEACHERS
  • Target and maintain support systems for students who were not successful on STAAR EOC assessments.
  • Contact all retesting students and their parents regarding additional tutoring sessions.
  • Disaggregate results and assist the principal in designing and implementing instruction for at‑risk students based on test scores.
  • Meet with registrar to adjust second semester schedules for those not passing in October.
  • Conference with department heads and teachers about test results and ways to improve student performance of at‑risk students.
  • Assist teachers in designing instruction for at‑risk students.
  • Provide academic support for at‑risk students.
  • Identify at‑risk students and maintain and share lists with teachers.
  • With the principal, design programs and activities to improve student achievement of at‑risk students.
  • Design programs and activities to improve the school's completion rate.
  • Activate a plan to recover drop‑outs.
  • Consult with teachers concerning at‑risk students in their classes and assist as appropriate.
  • Consult with assistant principals concerning attendance and discipline of at‑risk students.
  • Conference with classroom teachers regarding the need for problem solving team interventions.
  • Participate as active member in problem solving teams for at‑risk students.
  • Interpret testing data to at‑risk students and their parents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Aides, student teachers, student groups, etc., as assigned by the administration.
WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Communicating well, making multiple decisions regarding students' educational, physical, and emotional well‑being, and maintaining emotional control under stress.
  • Standing, walking, or verbalizing for long periods.
  • Lifting or moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
  • Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
