Job summary

City Year seeks an entry-level City Year AmeriCorps Member to coach and mentor students across elementary to high school levels. You will help students achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive school behaviors.

You’ll plan individual progress and collaborate with teachers on in-class support and breakout activities. Training is provided (2–4 weeks) at year start, with ongoing collaboration with teachers and staff to support student growth and engagement across school

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups to support academic success and positive behaviors.
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and collaborate with teachers on in-class instruction and student support.
• Provide literacy and math activities tailored to student level and encourage completion of assignments.
• Create and implement a behavior management system and foster a safe, engaging classroom environment.
• Collect, record, and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system and participate in data reviews.
• Support and co-lead school-wide initiatives and extracurricular programs to boost engagement with students and families.
