Job summary

Durango School District 9-R is hiring a Bus Monitor in the Transportation Department to assist the bus driver with student supervision during routes and to help with passenger safety. The 5-hour daily shifts run from 6:00am to 8:30am and 2:30pm to 5:00pm, with the position starting August 17, 2026.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent; none is required, though experience with children is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• None required; experience with children preferred.
• CPR and First Aid training preferred at hire; required two months after hire.
• CPI training required within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist the bus driver in managing student conduct and ensuring passenger safety on daily routes.
• Assist students in loading/unloading the bus and securing wheelchairs, strollers, etc.
• Maintain student conduct reports and complete required paperwork.
• Provide support during emergencies and assist with evacuation plans and drills.
• Protect passenger safety devices and ensure confidentiality of student information.
