Job summary

Space Dynamics Laboratory seeks an outgoing, organized student to assist with K-12 STEM outreach events and representations. You will coordinate lectures, tours, and activities, and help produce materials for SDL’s newsfeed and social media. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Ideal candidates are enrolled at Utah State University, enthusiastic about STEM outreach, and able to work evenings and some Saturdays. GPA 3.0+ and a citizen or eligible resident are required.

Qualifications

  • Must be a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student enrolled at Utah State University.
  • Must have an interest in STEM, science communication, or K-12 outreach.
  • Must be enthusiastic, innovative, and enjoy working with internal and external customers.
  • Outstanding communication skills – listening, speaking and writing.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands, stay calm, think quickly, and problem solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and on a team within guidelines.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
  • Available 2–6 evenings monthly and up to 2 Saturdays per year for events.
  • GPA 3.0+ and U.S. citizen or eligible resident.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and implements outreach events such as lectures, activities, and tours.
  • Hosts public tours and represents SDL at K-12 STEM events.
  • Generates ideas, updates materials, improves processes, and tracks results.
  • Publishes content for SDL’s newsfeed and social media teams.
  • Works positively with coworkers and community members.
  • Maintains and updates project files and outreach event metrics.

Job description

Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking an outgoing and organized student who enjoys working with a variety of people, finds satisfaction in successfully completing administrative tasks, and would be comfortable representing SDL at K-12 STEM outreach events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinates and implements a variety of outreach events such as lectures, outreach activities, and tours
  • Hosts public tours and represents SDL at K-12 STEM events
  • Generates ideas, updates outreach materials, improves processes, and tracks and communicates results
  • Provides content for SDL’s newsfeed and social media teams
  • Works in a positive, cooperative, and friendly manner with co-workers and community members
  • Maintains, tracks, and updates internal research and development project files and outreach program events, metrics, and processes
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Basic Requirements
  • Must be a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student enrolled at Utah State University
  • Must have an interest in STEM, science communication, or K-12 outreach
  • Must be enthusiastic, innovative, and enjoy working with internal and external customers
  • Outstanding communication skills – excellent listening skills, effective and clear speaking and writing skills
  • Ability to handle multiple demands, remain calm, think quickly, and problem solve
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and on a team within established guidelines
  • Attention to detail and exceptional organizational abilities
  • Must be able to work two (2) to six (6) evenings each month and up to two (2) Saturdays each year to support public tours and STEM events
  • GPA 3.0+
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of U.S., or other U.S. person
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in speaking and giving professional presentations
  • Passion for learning and ability to take complex topics and make them understandable to a diverse audience
  • Computer proficiency and detailed working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to carry and lift 25-50 lbs. on occasion
