Job summary

Kent Consortium in Covington, KY is seeking a School Food Service Worker to prepare and serve nutritious meals to students in accordance with USDA standards. You will follow tested recipes, help with meal service, and maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment.

This part-time position offers flexible hours within the school calendar and requires attention to safety, teamwork, and reliable attendance. Training is provided, and you will work closely with the School Food Service Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Checks assignment sheets and follows manager instructions on daily positions.
  • Prepares food according to the planned menu and tested recipes.
  • Maintains safety and cleanliness in the kitchen.
  • Assists in preparation and serving of food and replenishes supplies as needed.
  • Assists in daily kitchen cleanup and storage of commodities and supplies.
  • Cleans ovens, refrigerators, storerooms, and assists in dish room duties as assigned.
  • Maintains sanitary trash and garbage practices.
  • Attends School Food Service meetings when possible.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Goal

To serve the students attractive and nutritious meals, according to USDA standards for Child Feeding Programs, in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and warmth

Performance Responsibilities
  • Checks assignment sheets, as posted by Manager, for weekly assignments
  • Follows instructions given by Manager on positions to work, being flexible according to the needs of the day
  • Prepares food according to the planned menu and tested recipes
  • Makes notes on acceptability of food items by students
  • Maintains the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen
  • Assists in the preparation and serving of food in a quick and pleasant manner and sees that the supply of food offered is replenished regularly
  • Assists in daily cleanup of kitchen and service areas
  • Stores or disposes of unused food in proper manner
  • Assists in the storage of commodities, food items, and supplies, as received
  • Assists in the cleaning of ovens, refrigerators, storerooms or any cleaning job designated by manager
  • Works in dish room, as assigned, either scraping dishes, operating dishwasher, or stacking clean dishes and storing in proper area
  • Maintains the trash and garbage collection in a neat and sanitary way
  • Calls immediately for manager and an attending teacher in the event of any problem involving students; any incident involving physical confrontation; any incident that appears to be of more than momentary disruption
  • Attends School Food Service meetings when possible
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Terms of Employment
  • Days per fiscal year: Length of school year not to exceed 175 pupil attendance days, 4 holidays and 1 in-service day
  • Salary Schedule: G1 on Classified Position Index
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Performance of the position will be evaluated by the School Food Service Manager and/or the Director of Student Nutrition
