Job summary

Mendham Hills Community Church in New Jersey seeks a Student Ministries Pastor to lead and grow youth programs (grades 6–12), shaping vision, planning, and day-to-day execution with a team of volunteers.

You will collaborate with Children’s Ministry to shepherd transitions, recruit volunteers, oversee curriculum, safety procedures, events, and budget, while modeling Christ-like leadership and serving families.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a philosophy and long-term strategy for ministry in alignment with MHCC’s overall strategy, vision and goals.
  • Work collaboratively with the staff to ensure Student Ministries is contributing to the achievement of the overall vision and mission of MHCC.
  • Bring student ministry visibility to the church as a whole on a regular basis.
  • Develop and maintain a well-planned, balanced program throughout the year, coordinated with the MHCC calendar.
  • Provide strategic leadership - vision, development, direction and management - and oversight for all aspects of student ministries, Junior High through Senior High (including, but not limited to, Sunday School, weekly youth group meetings, small Bible studies, summer activities, retreats and special events)
  • Recruit and build volunteer teams - set direction, organize, train and shepherd
  • Plan and conduct regular student ministry team meetings
  • Develop a communication plan and disseminate information to keep staff, volunteers and parents informed
  • Regularly contribute to the MHCC social media presence
  • Develop and maintain a strategy for assimilating new students and their families
  • Create, coordinate and communicate scheduling and staffing for all programs, activities and special events related to Student Ministries
  • Be accessible to volunteers and available to teach or assist when needed
  • Provide volunteers with all lessons, materials and resources needed to serve in their roles
  • Mentor, counsel and spend time with students outside of regularly-scheduled student ministries activities
  • Be available to talk with parents who are concerned about their students and/or mediate between parents and students in times of crisis
  • Identify youth with leadership potential and assure opportunities are given for development
  • Oversee the selection and implementation of curriculum
  • Oversee and manage the Student Ministries budget
  • Develop, implement and maintain all safety and security processes, including background checks of volunteers and student release/permission forms
  • Oversee the overall appearance and decoration of all rooms and physical spaces associated with Student Ministries, ensuring they are current, organized, neat, clean and in good repair
  • Oversee, manage and care for equipment and “props”
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings, training and conferences
  • Pursue growth and development through reading, conferences and exchange of ideas with others
  • Collaborate with Children’s Ministry Director to ensure the smooth transition of 5th graders into the youth program

STUDENT MINISTRIES PASTOR
ROLE SUMMARY

The Student Ministries Pastor is responsible for the leadership, development, direction and implementation of the vision, strategy and tactical elements for all programs and activities related to student ministry (grades 6 through 12) at Mendham Hills Community Church.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A self-starter, able to work without constant, direct supervision
  • A positive attitude, flexibility and a servant’s heart: willing to contribute to the overall good of the staff team and MHCC by serving outside the Student Ministries Pastor role when needed
