Job summary

South-Suburban-College seeks to coordinate the Student Helpdesk (SSC Connect) and provide tier 1/2 IT support to faculty, staff, and students. The role includes supervising Intern Technicians, researching software/hardware issues, and generating reports for management.

You will install hardware/software, configure networks, and train users. Strong knowledge of networking, PC operating systems, and data privacy laws is essential; a background check is required.

Qualifications

Job description

SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to coordinate the operation of the Student Helpdesk (SSC Connect), providing Information Technology support to faculty, staff and students at tier 1 or tier 2 levels; conducting research related to software and/or hardware issues; and generating Helpdesk reports to management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works with other departments and/or outside sources to obtain Intern Technicians, schedule and assign staff as needed; maintain time and attendance records and forward to management.
  • Monitors and tracks helpdesk database, train and assign Intern Technicians, track Technician’s progress, and manage and track assets such as hardware and software.
  • Provides IT support to faculty, staff, and students; receive and resolve trouble calls from users; dispatch Intern Technician to resolve trouble calls; assist students with on-line registration and portal issues; train users on hardware and software usage; write or revise user training manuals and procedures; troubleshoot hardware and software problems; and install or replace hardware as needed.
  • Installs commercial microcomputer software packages on end-user computers
  • Configures, changes, and installs hardware configurations as appropriate, and provides technical assistance and training.
  • Installs premise network cabling; both fiber and copper.
  • Interact with feeder high schools and vendors as needed; and offering mentoring; training of new student Helpdesk Technicians.
  • Associate’s Degree in related network systems and/or related network job experience.
  • Three years of related work experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems and of current network hardware, protocols, and standards.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy and practice laws.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Extensive application support experience with Ellucian Colleague
STATUS/BENEFITS

This is a Full Time Support Staff position for 35 hours per week. Board approval is required. The salary comes with the following employee benefits:
