Job summary

The Student Health Nurse position in Ohio is an on-site role responsible for routine and emergency care, medication administration, and maintaining student health records. Licensed practical nurse (LPN) or registered nurse (RN) licensure in Ohio is required.

You will collaborate with families, school staff, and medical providers to support student well-being, coordinate health plans, and maintain health office operations including documentation in Infinite Campus.

Qualifications

• Current and unrestricted Ohio LPN or RN license.
• Current CPR, AED, and first-aid certification.
• Knowledge of medication administration, emergency response, infection control, confidentiality, and nursing documentation.
• Ability to work independently while recognizing when RN/physician support is required.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work with children, families, school employees, and medical professionals.
• Successful completion of required background checks.

Responsibilities

• Provide first aid and nursing care to students who become ill or injured during the school day.
• Assess student health concerns and determine appropriate follow-up within the School Health Nurse's scope of practice.
• Administer and document prescription and nonprescription medications according to physician orders, parent authorization, and school procedures.
• Maintain secure storage of medications, including controlled substances.
• Support students with chronic or complex medical needs.
• Follow individualized health plans and emergency action plans.
• Respond to medical emergencies and initiate appropriate emergency procedures.
• Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in Infinite Campus.
• Enter and update student medical conditions, medications, health plans, office visits, treatments, and parent communications.
• Communicate with parents or caregivers regarding student illness, injury, medication needs, and follow-up care.
• Communicate significant injuries, medical concerns, prolonged absences, and recurring health patterns to appropriate school personnel.
• Coordinate student pickup and dismissal from the Health Office with the front office.
• Maintain Health Office supplies, emergency medications, and equipment.
• Support health screenings, incident reporting, infection-control practices, and other school health procedures.
• Coordinate with the medical providers, emergency responders, and school personnel as needed.

Position Overview

The Student Health Nurse serves as the school's primary on-site health professional. This position provides routine and emergency care to students, administers medications and treatments, maintains student health records, and communicates with families and school employees. This position requires a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) currently licensed in Ohio.

Minimum Requirements

• Ability to work independently while recognizing when RN, physician, or emergency support is required.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with children, families, school employees, and medical professionals.
• Ability to maintain accurate electronic records and use email and standard office technology.
• Successful completion of required background checks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current and unrestricted Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Previous experience in school nursing, pediatrics, family practice, urgent care, or a similar setting.
• Experience supporting children with chronic or complex medical needs.
• Experience with Infinite Campus or a comparable electronic health-record system.
