Job summary

Quinnipiac University is seeking a Student Technical Theater Assistant to support the Black Box Theater in the College of Arts & Sciences under Federal Work Study. The position focuses on theater maintenance, event prep, and hands-on work with lighting, scenery, costumes, and safety protocols.

You will work 0-15 hours per week with hours primarily on Thursdays and Fridays 9am-5pm, and additional weekends as needed. Training will cover equipment handling and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb and work on ladders.
  • Ability to work at height.
  • Willingness to learn about and safely operate tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with theater maintenance and event prep.
  • Hang and focus lighting equipment.
  • Build, move, install scenic elements and equipment.
  • Paint scenery and props.
  • Care for costumes and sewing.
  • Clean and maintain theater space and equipment.
  • Organize equipment and storage.
  • Assist with event setup and strike.
  • Maintain a safe workplace and wear PPE as directed.

Job description

Student Technical Theater Assistant

College of Arts & Sciences

Federal Work Study

Responsibilities
  • Assist with theater maintenance, and preparation for events held in the Black Box Theater
  • Under the supervision of the Theater Technical Director:
    • Hang and focus lighting equipment
    • Build, move, and install scenic elements, and other performance equipment
    • Paint scenery and props
    • Use sewing machine to build or mend costumes
    • Care for costumes including washing, drying, ironing, steaming, and other care methods
    • Cleaning and maintenance of theater space and equipment
    • Equipment organization and storage
    • Event setup and strike
  • Maintain a safe workplace through proper workwear including sturdy closed-toe shoes, durable pants, hair securely fashioned, and PPE as directed by the Technical Director
Qualifications
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb and work on ladders
  • Ability to work at height
  • Willingness to learn about and safely operate tools and equipment
Hours of Position
  • Flexible work hours depending on event needs (0-15 hours/week)
  • Available hours will be Thursdays and Fridays 9am-5pm, weekends as needed, Monday-Wednesday as needed.
