Job summary

University of Virginia Athletics Academic Affairs seeks a diverse pool of Content Tutors to assist student-athletes with course content and skill development for test/quiz prep, decoding lecture material, and managing reading loads. Tutors will join the Cavalier Academic Support Team (CAST) for Fall 2026.

Sessions are mostly in-person, with some virtual options; hours are evening-friendly and schedules vary by course need.

Qualifications

• Must have knowledge of the tutor course content and have received a B or better in that particular course.
• Must be able to deliver study strategies specific to the content area.
• Must have strong communication skills.
• Must be highly organized.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality and the UVA Honor Code.

Responsibilities

• Create, plan, and instruct sessions specific to course content.
• Conduct sessions using the CAST tutoring framework.
• Comply with all NCAA and ACC rules and regulations as well as the UVA Honor Code guidelines through continuous training.
• Complete detailed session reports at the end of each session via the Athletics Academic Affairs reporting system.
• Communicate with Academic Affairs staff regarding any issues or concerns with student-performance.
• Establish professional working relationship with students and the Athletics Academic Affairs Staff.
• Attend tutor orientation at the beginning of each semester and required trainings throughout.
• Monitor student progress and report to the appropriate constituents.
• Additional duties as assigned.
