Job Summary

Under the general direction of the BAC Directors, manage the comprehensive academic advising and support services for specific NCAA teams in the Bickerstaff Academic Center for Student-Athletes (BAC). Coordinate BAC assessments on advising services and assist the Director of Academic Support with academic support program assessments. Serve as the BAC liaison for returning student athletes.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate the year-round academic advising and support services for specific NCAA teams.
• Responsible for all academic advising for specific NCAA teams including the interpretation of all NCAA/ CSULB rules and regulations, as well as calculations for NCAA progress towards degree requirements, GE requirements, major courses, etc.
• Assist in the planning, coordination and delivery of BEACHAMPION program.
• Assist the Directors of the BAC with Administrative tasks.
• Maintain working knowledge and comply with all NCAA compliance, Big West Conference, Athletic Department and CSULB rules and regulations that apply to working with the NCAA student-Athlete population.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

• Hiring Rate: The hiring range for this position is $5,083 per month.
• CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,083 - $7,228 per month.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong knowledge of the general principles, practices, and emerging trends within the student-athlete field, with preferred experience in athletic academic advising and a solid understanding of both CSULB and NCAA rules and regulations. They demonstrate an awareness of the unique issues and academic complexities facing student-athletes, along with strong skills in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to support informed decision-making. The candidate is adept at interpreting and applying policies, rules, and regulations, while showing initiative, resourcefulness, and sound judgment in implementing them effectively. Additionally, they excel at building and maintaining collaborative working relationships with faculty, CSULB administrators, and students, and possess the ability to work effectively and inclusively within a culturally diverse environment.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Education and Experience

Must have the equivalent to graduation from a 4-year college or university in the areas of Liberal Arts, Behavioral Sciences or Kinesiology and two years of professional experience in one student services or related areas required. A master's degree may be substituted for one year of experience.

Physical Summary

Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects (10 pounds or less).

CSULB is not a sponsoring agency for staff and management positions (i.e. H-1B Visas).

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSULB will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
