Job summary

The California State University, Chancellor’s Office, seeks a Student Assistant to provide clerical support for STEM-NET programs. The role is twenty hours per week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with up to 40 hours during breaks.

The anticipated salary is $18.00 per hour, with a range of $16.90–$24.00 per hour for this temporary, part‑time position. Under supervision, you’ll assist with program operations, communications, virtual events, data tracking, and office needs.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist with clerical and administrative tasks for STEM-NET programs, webinars, and virtual events.
  • Support pre-production tasks for virtual events, including materials and registration lists.
  • Maintain STEM-NET electronic files in SharePoint.
  • Enter and update data in spreadsheets and program tracking tools.
  • Assist with marketing emails and social media content, as needed.

The CSU Office of the Chancellor is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Student Assistant to provide clerical support twenty hours per week, Monday - Friday, between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. When classes are not in session, such as during spring and summer breaks, the Student Assistant may be eligible to work up to 40 hours per week.

Position Information

The anticipated salary for this position is $18.00 per hour.

The salary range for this classification is $16.90 to $24.00 per hour.

This position is temporary, part-time, and does not include benefits.

Job Summary

Under direct supervision, the Student Assistant will support program operations, communications, virtual events, data tracking, and general office needs. This position is ideal for a student who is detail-oriented, comfortable with technology, and interested in supporting systemwide STEM initiatives across California State University.

Minimum Qualifications

The student must be enrolled in a minimum of six units at a CSU campus. This position requires strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to use professional etiquette when communicating by email or phone; the ability to conduct basic online research, including searching websites and organizing information; strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions; the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; and dependability, organization, and willingness to learn.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include basic knowledge of ChatGPT, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe, Zoom, SharePoint, Smartsheet, Canva, and internet search tools; experience with data entry, spreadsheets, social media, email communications, or event support; being detail-oriented and diligent in following up and completing assigned tasks; a positive and pleasant attitude with good problem-solving skills; an interest in STEM, higher education, research, student success, or communications; and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Additional duties include
  • Assist with clerical and administrative tasks related to STEM-NET programs, webinars, workshops, and virtual events.
  • Support pre-production tasks for virtual events, including preparing materials, organizing registration lists, assisting with speaker information, and helping track event logistics.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining STEM-NET electronic files in SharePoint.
  • Enter, review, and update data in spreadsheets, Smartsheet, SharePoint, and other program tracking tools.
  • Assist with sending emails related to marketing, outreach, event reminders, and social media projects.
  • Help track and update STEM-NET listservs, contact lists, and distribution groups.
  • Monitor and assist with STEM-NET email inquiries using professional etiquette and ensure messages are reviewed daily.
  • Assist with basic social media content preparation, and promotional materials, as needed.
  • Conduct basic online research to support program activities, faculty/student highlights, event planning, and outreach efforts.
  • Assist with collecting, organizing, and summarizing information from campuses, faculty, students, and partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling student, faculty, financial, or program-related information.
  • Perform other clerical and program support duties as assigned.
