Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston seeks student Peer Tutors to assist with BSN core courses. Tutors participate in the hiring process, orientate, and deliver supplemental teaching sessions to reinforce essential concepts and clinical concepts across cohorts.

Ideal candidates are UTMB students with strong course performance and readiness to mentor peers while supporting learning outcomes and certification exam preparation.

Qualifications

• Must have HS diploma and be a current UTMB student.
• Two years of college-level study are preferred.

• Lead students through practice scenarios and recommend additional resources.

Job Duties

• Students are recommended by faculty based on superior course performance and observance of interactions with cohort and patients. The students hired as Peer Tutors for coverage in the 11 traditional core courses.
• The candidates complete the hire process and orientation prior to conducting supplemental teaching/tutorial sessions for fundamental courses in the BSN curriculum. This creates an opportunity for the students to interact between cohorts and serve as unofficial mentors while serving as detailed review of essential concept mastery necessary for successful completion of the BSN program and certification exam.
• Peer Tutors will assist students, in small groups by helping students to clarify classroom/lab and textbook information, demonstrating with sample scenarios and examples, ushering students through the work, suggesting supplementary resources for students to utilize.
