Job summary

The University of Georgia offers a part-time student assistant role in the Variety Testing program. This position supports seed lab activities and occasional field work under the supervision of Dr. Mailhot, reporting to the Program Director.

Hours vary, up to 20 per week, with a $12.75 hourly wage. Currently enrolled students from the University System of Georgia are invited to apply. Driving is required, and duties include handling seeds and lab equipment in a dynamic agricultural environment

Position Summary

This is a part-time (up to 20 hours per week) position. The student will be working in the Variety Testing program performing seed lab activities and sometimes field work. This position will report to Dr. Danial Mailhot, Program Director.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Supporting seed lab activities including inventory, packaging, quality evaluations and ginning of cotton samples.
  • Supporting field activities including planting, data collection and harvest.
  • Cleaning of workspace and state vehicles.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification

Currently enrolled in a University System of Georgia Institution.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Good time management skills. Ability to remain productively engaged in work activities.

Physical Demands

Driving. Occasionally lift 30-lb bags, sitting, standing, reaching, pulling, bending and walking. Tolerance of outdoor working conditions including sun, heat, humidity, insects, and potentially dust. Indoor exposures include dust and potentially noise. Includes some exposure to peanut and wheat allergens.
