Job summary

Theuniversityunion's Office of Water Programs on the Sacramento State campus seeks a graphic design student to support our design team on a variety of projects. This is a part-time, on-campus role for an undergraduate Graphic Design or Design Studies student.

Responsibilities include translating concepts into visuals, creating schematics and layouts, and assisting with front-end UI learnings while maintaining a flexible schedule of up to 20 hours per week during the academic year.

Qualifications

  • Must be an undergraduate student enrolled at a college or university.
  • Major in Graphic Design or Design Studies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers, developers, and project staff to translate engineering concepts into figures, infographics, or visualizations.
  • Assist the design team on all projects from concept to development and production.
  • Create schematics, charts, graphs, and vectors for presentations and reports.
  • Work on multi-page layouts for publications, newsletters, reports, and forms.
  • Help design visual identities and special marks for internal initiatives and external clients.
  • Occasional photo and video capture and post-production tasks.
  • Learn and work with front-end code to develop user interfaces for clients.

Description

The Office of Water Programs (OWP) on the Sacramento State campus is seeking to hire a graphic design student to assist our design team with a diverse range of projects.

Conditions of Employment

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

UEI does not allow employees to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one college or center per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI position for a different UEI position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week’s notice.

Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (i.e., degree, license, or official transcript), DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.

Prerequisites

Must be an undergraduate college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring, and Winter, if applicable), at an accredited college or university. Must be enrolled at a minimum in six semester units or nine quarter units.

Majors/Fields of Study

Graphic Design or Design Studies.

Work Schedule

Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM – 5 PM. Final work schedule to be determined by supervisor.

Additional Work Schedule

Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring & summer).

Compensation

$22.00 per hour

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
  • Enrolled as a Graphic Design or Design Studies student at an accredited college or university.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
  • Dependable, punctual, and responsible in work attendance.
  • Able to work a consistent schedule on a weekly basis.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member who can, with guidance, prioritize work assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in an organized manner and to deliver quality work with minimal errors.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally by email and phone to obtain information from internal resources.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to work on the Windows platform.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work with Abobe Creative Suite applications to produce camera-ready artwork.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with engineers, developers, and project staff to translate engineering concepts into finished figures, infographics, or visualizations.
  • Assist the design team on all projects from concept to development and production.
  • Creation of schematics, charts, graphs, and other vectors for presentations and reports.
  • Work on multi-page layouts for publications, newsletters, reports, and forms.
  • Help to design visual identities and special marks for internal initiatives and external clients.
  • Ability to do occasional photo and video capture assignments.
  • Ability to complete photo post-production and retouch.
  • Ability to learn and work with front-end code to develop user interfaces for clients.
  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities and produce good work.
  • Ability to learn on the job, be self-motivated, and research/troubleshoot problems.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support project timelines and deliverables.
Physical Requirements

Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.

Summary

The Office of Water Programs develops and implements programs and publishes manuals for operators of water treatment plants, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and municipal and industrial wastewater treatment and reclamation facilities. OWP research engineers and scientists perform and manage research efforts focused on characterizing water quality issues, including developing and testing methods to improve water quality. Our researchers provide technical advice on water policy issues, assist in watershed planning, and perform modeling, data analysis, and cost assessments to help both the public and private sectors make informed decisions based on accurate information and good science.
