Job summary

Puget Sound Educational Service District seeks a Student Assistance Professional to deliver prevention and early intervention services for students across Enumclaw and Seattle sites. The SAP will support school-based programs addressing substance use, violence, and mental health issues.

The role is housed in the Learning Support Services department and requires collaboration with assigned administrators to implement best practices and evaluate program effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • AA degree or higher in Social Services, Human Services, Counseling, or related field, or equivalent with experience.
  • Experience in youth-serving programs or prevention/early intervention work.
  • Spanish Fluency required at Seattle World School site.
  • Experience with school-based student assistance programs or youth education support.
  • Experience with community coalitions.

Responsibilities

  • Develops policies for drug/alcohol prevention in schools.
  • Attends training for staff development and program evaluation.
  • Performs early intervention for students experimenting with substance use.
  • Coordinates with the student assistance team to identify high-risk students.
  • Maintains confidential program records and data for funding and reporting.
  • Presents program components to students and teachers.
  • Provides screening and referral information to students and parents.
  • Delivers individual and family counseling within the student assistance framework.

Purpose Statement

Puget Sound Educational Service District seeks a Student Assistance Professionals to provide prevention and early intervention services to students in Multiple locations. The Learning Support Services department places Student Assistance Professionals in schools to implement comprehensive student assistance programs that address problems associated with substance use, violence, and mental health issues.

PSESD is one of nine regional educational agencies serving school districts and state approved charter and private schools in Washington. Serving over 39% of Washington’s K-12 public school students, our agency provides critical services designed to ensure that our students are ready to enter school, achieve at high levels in the K-12 system, and succeed in postsecondary endeavors. This job reports to Assigned Administrator.

Currently, we are hiring for 2 different locations: Enumclaw and Seattle.

Enumclaw: SAP will work with Enumclaw Middle School and Enumclaw high School.

Enumclaw Middle School: 5 50 Semanski St. S. Enumclaw, WA 98022

Enumclaw High School: 226 Semanski St. S. Enumclaw, WA 98022

Seattle: Spanish Fluent is required.

The Seattle World School: 1700 E Union St. Seattle, WA 98122

Essential Functions
  • Assists in developing drug and alcohol related policies at schools for the purpose of assuring best practice standards.
  • Attends training meetings at PSESD for the purpose of providing staff development and assessing program effectiveness.
  • Conducts early intervention/insight programs for students experimenting with alcohol/drug use or suspended for alcohol/drug use for the purpose of reducing and/or mitigating substance abuse, and improving health and learning preparedness.
  • Coordinates activities with student assistance team for the purpose of identifying high risk students and referring them to school and community-based services.
  • Develops and implements work plans to prioritize school service needs at each site for the purpose of assuring effective strategies and maintaining program standards.
  • Develops and implements an identification and referral process for school staff, students, and parents for the purpose of providing substance abuse reduction strategies and improving health and learning preparedness.
  • Develops and implements prevention plans for the purpose of ensuring students are safe, healthy, supported, engaged, challenges, and actively participating in their school experiences.
  • Embodies the principles and practices that form our culture and commitment to becoming an Antiracist Multicultural Organization for the purpose of meeting the Agency’s End: Success for Each Child and Eliminating the Opportunity Gap by Leading with Racial Equity.
  • Facilitates school-based recovery support groups for the purpose of decreasing substance abuse and improving health and learning preparedness.
  • Maintains confidential program records and files; compile and input data for the purpose of complying with funding requirements and maintaining best practices.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying/gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Participates in program evaluation for the purpose of evaluating program effectiveness.
  • Presents program components to students and teachers for the purpose of sharing resources that support substance abuse reduction and improve health and learning preparedness.
  • Provides standardized screening and referral information to students and parents participating in the prevention/intervention program for the purpose of assisting students with effective intervention support.
  • Provides individual & family counseling services within the student assistance framework for the purpose of delivering services in conformance to established guidelines.
  • Provides school wide awareness (prevention) programs for staff, students, and parents for the purpose of reducing and/or mitigating substance abuse and improving health and learning preparedness.
  • Provides staff development training on various topics (e.g. tobacco, alcohol and drug prevention, intervention, mental health, physical health, engagement strategies, etc.) for the purpose of sharing expertise and resources on prevention/intervention strategies and building team capacity.

Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Community and Family Engagement: Demonstrates knowledge and expertise related to engaging with stakeholders, including children, families and communities, to promote wellness and self-sufficiency.

Knowledge Sharing: Imparts relevant information to others to increase understanding and overall Agency effectiveness and alignment.

Planning, Organization, and prioritization: Assesses the work to be performed, and considers how it should be organized and accomplished, with appropriate priorities and realistic time parameters.

Recordkeeping and Documentation: Gathers, organizes, and maintains records, following confidential information and security protocols as needed. Accurately documents relevant/essential actions, processes, and practices.

  • AA degree or higher in Social Services, Human Services, Counseling, or other related field; or a SUDP, SUDP/T, or High School Diploma/GED equivalent with increasing years of relevant job-related experience. Candidates with a High School Diploma/GED must agree to obtain a CPP within 18 months of start date with agency support.
  • Experience working in a youth serving program or agency with an emphasis on prevention and early intervention of violence, alcohol, tobacco and/or other drug use, mental health, or other social or public health issues.
  • Spanish Fluent is required for Seattle World School.
  • Experience with school-based student assistance programs or youth-based educational support groups
  • Experience working with community-based coalitions
  • Presentation experience.
  • Real time data entry experience is preferred.
