Job summary

Indiana University Bloomington's Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology is seeking a part-time Collections Assistant who will support NAGPRA compliance and collections work. The role involves maintaining records, handling artifacts with care, and assisting with storage and cataloging under supervision.

The position is in Bloomington, IN, requires current enrollment in anthropology or related field, and offers on-the-job training in lab processes and databases.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at Indiana University pursuing a degree in Anthropology or related field.
• Experience with databases, record-keeping, and object handling in a museum setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Archaeology Collections Manager in supporting NAGPRA compliance work and other collections management projects.
• Work with FileMaker Pro to inventory, record, and catalog objects.
• Learn proper object handling techniques and follow museum collections standards.
• Document scanning, archival processing, moving and rehousing collections, photography, inventory, and creating storage mounts as needed.
• Maintain strong communication with the Archaeology Collections Manager and staff.
