Job summary

Haynes Family Of Programs Inc. seeks an on-site educational assistant to support certified teachers with multi-sensory IEP implementation for emotionally disturbed students.

You will work one-on-one with students, reinforce lessons, and help maintain classroom discipline. Responsibilities include observing, de-escalating incidents, maintaining records, and supporting vocational activities; participation in meetings and trainings is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 48 college units are required.
• Ability to learn and apply crisis intervention techniques.
• First Aid and CPR certification within 3 months.
• Must have a valid CA driver license and insurance.
• Background checks required: DOJ, Child Abuse, licensing agencies.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing the IEP and review daily lesson plans.
• Observe and de-escalate behavior following procedures; report progress.
• Provide vocational instruction per student program (e.g., woodshop, photography).
• Maintain confidential student records incl. progress and attendance.
• Assist in chaperoning to vocational instruction and events.
• Attend faculty meetings and trainings; support health and safety.

SUMMARY:Responsible for assisting a certified teacher in implementing a multi-sensory individualized education plan (IEP) for each severely emotionally disturbed child in a classroom with six to twelve students with special emphasis on maintenance of discipline and working one on one with student.JOB DUTIES:Assist educators in implementing the IEP and review daily lesson plans and contribute information and ideas as appropriateRead and understand IEP and BIP of assigned studentsObserve and control behavior according to established proceduresReport progress regarding student behavior and performance to teacherProvide vocational instruction according to expertise and student program (e.g., woodshop, photography, clerical)Accompany assigned students to vocational instruction as assignedParticipate in special programs (e.g., assemblies, plays, cultural events) with students as requiredParticipate in the maintenance of individual student records including progress reports and daily attendance records in accordance with school policies; ensures confidentiality is maintainedRespond appropriately to incidents and problems with students to de-escalate them as quickly as possible; uses crisis intervention skills in communicating with child; participates in physical interventions as necessary, in accordance with Company policies and proceduresWrite up and turn in all incident reportsFollow all students that elope from classroom including all breaks, walks, bathroom, etc.Attend and participates in faculty meetings, in-service programs and workshops to maintain professional knowledge and skills and keep informed as to Company policies and programs that may impact on students; attends and utilizes all required trainingsAssist in maintaining health and safety of students by being aware of environment and the potential of student actions; assists the teacher or specialist according to established guidelines and proceduresAssist students by providing behavioral examples, displaying values and morals, providing emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance; assists in directing group activities of students at lunch and other timesPerforms other reasonable related duties as assignedPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:In the course of performing this on-site job, the incumbent typically spends time standing, running, walking on sloped/hilly areas of campus, climbing stairs carrying, driving, lifting (up to 40 pounds), listening, speaking, reaching, writing, and participating in restraint procedures.QualificationsWorking knowledge of child guidance principles and practices, basic academic subjects, including arithmetic, oral and written communication skills; safe practices in classroom activities, record-keeping techniques and health and safety regulationsAbility to learn the special needs, problems and requirements of students; assist teachers with instruction and related activities of the assigned learning environment; and operate instructional equipmentMinimum of 48 college unitsbasic skills in working with children with disabilities or adolescents, typically learned in two years’ experienceability to pass and utilize Crisis Intervention Training within three months of employmentability to pass and utilize First Aid and CPR Certification within three months of employmentability to work as a member of a therapeutic teamability to support philosophy of the school and Companyeffective oral and written communications skillsThe incumbent must be able to perform this job safely, without endangering the health or safety of him/her or othersRequires a valid California Driver License and proof of insurance acceptable per insurance carrierMust fulfill all requirements of employment, including clearance of all required background records (e.g. Department of Justice, Child Abuse, California Community Care Licensing, County Sanction List, etc.), professional, physical examination, and drug testing
