Job Details

Job Title: Student Advisor Retirees of the Texas Teachers Retirement System (TRS) may apply. Consistent with district policy SD-7.17 “Employment of Retirees,” selected applicants are responsible for reimbursing the district, through payroll deduction, for the current rate of all TRS pension or TRS Care surcharges. As of September 1, 2025, the TRS pension surcharge rate is 16.5% and the TRS Care surcharge is $535/month. Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Pay Group: A45 Salary Plan Primary Purpose: Placement and Testing of students in the educational environment. Serves as a support for the campus and provides assistance and coaching to teachers and staff for instructional improvement, classroom discipline and overall campus improvement.

Qualifications

Education/Certification/Experience: Master’s degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE).

Standard School Counselor certificate issued by SBEC.

OR

State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) Mid-Management/Administrator/Principal Certificate, or other appropriate administrative certificate.

This position requires personal technology that will enable the completion of job duties and responsibilities when working remotely.

Special Knowledge/Skills

Major Responsibilities And Duties
  • Identify, assess, and enroll students in programming most conducive to their educational needs.
  • Maintain a suitable number of students per class by placing students in appropriate programs.
  • Support district-wide goals and objectives for school and organizational climate and comply with district policies in the placement of students.
  • Provide teachers and students with effective resources and assessments for college and career planning, development and readiness.
  • Advise students regarding educational decisions and disseminate program information.
  • Maintain status as General Educational Development (GED) examiner, and coordinate the unit testing program, including, but not limited to, GED, educational achievement (EA), and vocational testing, as warranted.
  • Develop working relationships with teachers and assist them in effectively addressing student misconduct.
  • Assist the principal with campus leadership to include but not limited to; providing staff development, represent campus at TDCJ and/or WSD meetings, monitoring campus accountability and Campus Improvement Plan development and monitoring.
  • Serve as representative of administration, as appropriate, for Admission, Review and Dismissal committees and any other committees determining student placement.
  • Serve cooperatively with unit Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) administration and staff.
  • Attend and participate in staff development provided by the district and other agencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information received in the performance of the job duties.
  • Perform duties in a professional manner through daily, punctual attendance at location of work assignment.
  • Follow Windham School District policies and procedures in completing assigned job duties.
  • Execute duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in 19 TAC Chapter 247, Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise activities of the Testing Specialist, Testing Clerk, and Intake (Admin) Clerk at the discretion of the principal.
