Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair, and replace aircraft sheet metal structures per manuals and FAA regulations.
  • Read blueprints to determine sequences for fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal parts.
  • Lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal components using precise measurement.
  • Mark dimensions and reference lines on material and maintain accurate records.
  • Maintain equipment and keep the work area clean and organized.
  • Log component removals and apply identification tags as required.

Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Structures Technician to perform functions assigned in the repair and replacement of aircraft sheet metal structures. In this role, you will inspect, fabricate, and install crucial structural components such as landing gear fittings, skins, and floor beams, ensuring each aircraft meets the highest standards of safety and compliance. You should be detail oriented, passionate about precision, and have a strong grasp of blueprints and layout techniques.

As a 24/7 operation, we have openings across all shifts—including standard day shifts, second shift, weekend shifts, and 12‑hour shifts. Candidates must be flexible and willing to work any shift based on operational needs.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Research technical data and perform inspection, repair, and replacement of aircraft sheet metal structures in accordance with applicable maintenance manuals, FAA regulations, and Ascent Aviation policies.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequences and methods for fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.
  • Plan, lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal parts and equipment using knowledge of metallic and nonmetallic materials, machining, and layout techniques.
  • Select gauge and type of sheet metal—such as stainless steel, steel, aluminum, plastics, or fiberglass—according to product specifications.
  • Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on material using scribes, dividers, squares, and rulers, applying shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns.
  • Perform maintenance work such as repair and maintenance of company equipment and shop housekeeping.
  • Make appropriate entries in the Component Removal Log, complete identification tags, and repairable/parts routing tags when removing components from aircraft.

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Proficient in sheet metal fabrication, repair, and installation
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and structural repair manuals
  • Strong understanding of aircraft materials and structural components
  • Experienced in layout, measurement, and precision marking techniques
  • Detail‑oriented with strong documentation skills
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English, including following verbal and written instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1–5 years in aircraft structure repair preferred
  • Driver’s license required; additional licences preferred
Physical Requirements
  • Requires sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods
  • Requires frequent walking, climbing, lifting, bending, reaching, carrying, and pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds
  • Requires eye‑hand coordination and manual dexterity; corrected vision and hearing to normal range
Equipment Operated
  • Rivet guns, drills, slip rollers, rollers, grinders and sanders, work benches, and sheet metal tables
Working Conditions
  • Aircraft maintenance hangar
Other Duties
  • May be required to work at both Marana, AZ and Tucson, AZ locations as business needs dictate
  • Additional duties may be assigned at the discretion of department management
Safety Management Requirements (SMS)
  • Perform duties in accordance with company policies and government regulations
  • Participate in safety education programs and train to recognize hazards and report them promptly
  • Report errors, incidents, and accidents honestly; observe and report unsafe actions or conditions
