Job summary

Canadian Pacific Railway is seeking a Structures Foreman in the United States to lead maintenance on bridges, trestles, buildings, and related structures. You will supervise crews performing restoration and repairs, ensuring safe environments around all structures and walkways.

The role requires carpentry, masonry, or welding background, and proficiency with MS Office is preferred. You will coordinate tasks, manage materials, and uphold high safety standards across timber, concrete, and steel

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Background in carpentry, masonry or welding.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow repair procedures and drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and inspect railroad bridges and related structures.
  • Plan tasks, secure materials, and coordinate bridge crews.
  • Operate and assist with hoisting equipment, drills, rivet busters, saws.
  • Inspect bridge components such as rails, ties, bolts and fasteners.
  • Perform general upkeep, including work at heights and debris removal.
  • Specialize in maintenance of buildings, platforms, and bridges with wood framing and concrete work.
  • Record inspection findings and repair details in official reports.
  • Lift and carry materials up to 50 lbs.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

As a Structures Foreman, you’ll lead and oversee the maintenance of bridges, trestles, buildings, concrete foundations, retaining walls, and related structural areas to ensure a safe environment around all structures and walkways. The selected candidate will supervise crews performing restoration and repair work on timber, concrete, and steel bridges, including posting piles, installing bridge caps, bridge ties, and headwalls, as well as completing minor steel repairs such as removing rivets and replacing them with bolts.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Supervise and perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs on railroad bridges, including timber, concrete, and steel structures
  • Coordinate repair projects by securing needed materials, planning job tasks, and organizing bridge crews and work schedules
  • Operate and assist with equipment and tools such as hoisting equipment, drills, jackhammers, rivet busters, chainsaws, air drills and cutting tools
  • Inspect, test, and repair bridge components such as timber, bridge ties, rails, spikes, drift pins, bolts, and other fastening devices
  • Carry out general upkeep, such as working at heights on ladders or scaffolding, clearing debris, and maintaining properties
  • Specialize in the maintenance and repair of structures including buildings, platforms and bridges with expertise in wood framing, concrete work, snow removal, and station facilities to ensure a safe environment
  • Record inspection findings, repair details, and structural conditions accurately in official inspection books and reports
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs. as required
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Background in carpentry, masonry and welding or other applicable trades
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred
  • Adept at conveying information accurately and providing straightforward directions
