Job summary

MSD Decatur Township seeks a paraprofessional to support teachers and students in a high-demand classroom environment. You will assist with implementing IEPs and behavior plans, provide daily care, and help students in general education settings, including note copying and test modification.

The role requires strong communication with staff and supervisors, willingness to learn, and ability to handle physical tasks and mobility support as needed. 180-day schedule, starting at $17.00/hour.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate with staff, students, and visitors.
• Ability to communicate with supervisor(s) in person and in writing to receive assignments/directions.
• High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
• Experience working with Special Needs Students Preferred.
• May require using sign language.
• May require sensory interpretation training and student restraint training.
• May require health related services, supports or adaptations including assisting students with activities and daily living.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher(s).
• Assist the classroom teacher(s) in the implementation of the individual students IEP and Behavior Plans.
• Support students in general education classes by copying notes, modifying tests and materials, reading quizzes and tests, and conducting study sessions in accordance with the IEP.
• Assist the classroom teacher(s) with students requiring daily care (e.g. toileting, diapering, feeding).
• Monitor student progress in general education classes.
• Keep the Teacher of Record informed of academic progress and behavioral concerns.
• Maintain a notebook with copies of accommodation pages from the students IEP.
• Maintain a journal of students behaviors for input for a FBA.
• Assist classroom teacher with student discipline and implementation of individualized behavior support plans.
• Assist students on and off the bus.
• Tutor individual students or groups of students.
• Check students work and assist students with make-up work.
• Provide escort and assistance to students.
• Assist the classroom teacher with daily supervision of students in the classroom, restroom, drills, assemblies, recess, field trips.
• Alert and inform the classroom teacher of problems or information concerning individual students.
• Create and copy instructional work.
• Participate in in-service training programs.
• Operate audio-visual equipment and computers for instructional purposes.
• Assist the classroom teacher with student class record keeping.
• Gather materials requested by the classroom teacher.
• Supervise students as assigned by building administrator(s) or classroom teacher(s).
• Maintain confidentiality on student information, work, and progress.
• Maintain positive relationships with school personnel.
• Performs other tasks and responsibilities assigned by the teacher/administrator.
• Operate and use technology (iPad, Computer, Apps, CANVAS).

Physical Requirements:

• Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities assigned by the classroom teacher and/or building administrator(s)
• Operate and use technology (iPad, Computer, Apps, CANVAS, etc.)
