Job summary

The University of New Hampshire is seeking a structured cabling technician to install, test, and maintain campus cabling systems. You will work on copper and fiber installations, terminations, and verification to ensure data, voice, and video transmission reliability.

You will collaborate with facilities teams and external vendors, document configurations, and follow safety and industry standards to deliver robust, scalable infrastructure across campus facilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; certifications in structured cabling desirable.
• Knowledge of TIA/EIA standards for structured cabling.
• Proficiency in copper and fiber termination techniques (RJ-45, LC, SC, ST, MPO).
• Experience with testing and certification tools (cable analyzers, OTDRs, power meters).
• Familiarity with network equipment (switches, routers, VOIP phones, WAPs).
• Ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; good time management.

Responsibilities

• Plan, install, terminate, and test copper and fiber cabling systems.
• Mount, rack, and connect network equipment with proper cable management.
• Conduct cable testing and certification with specialized equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues and maintain cabling infrastructure.
• Maintain documentation: diagrams, schematics, as-built drawings, inventory.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, electricians, and vendors.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and industry standards (TIA/EIA, ANSI/TIA, ISO/IEC).
