Job summary

Ameri-Force is seeking a skilled Welder to join our team for demanding shipboard work in Bremerton, WA. The role requires NAVSEA-related experience, strict adherence to welding procedures, and the ability to pass multiple plate and pipe tests for stainless steel and carbon steel as listed in the job requirements.

Work may include various shifts, lifting up to 50 lbs, operating torches, and following precise safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Has 5 years of related experience, with at least two years being NAVSEA-related experience.
  • Possesses standard tools for a welder.
  • Able to work different shifts.
  • Must have good knowledge of ship board spaces.
  • Must have knowledge of weld symbols.
  • Must Pass Structural Plate Test (SMAW) with 11018m covered electrode, and Flux Core (FCAW) plate with 71T1 filler.
  • Must Pass GTAW plate test for Stainless Steel.
  • Must Pass SMAW plate for Stainless Steel.
  • Must pass Stick over TIG plate test (7018 and 70S2).
  • Must pass Aluminum Plate test.
  • Must Pass Pipe socket test for Carbon Steel.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to safely hook up and operate a torch.
  • Must have knowledge of WAFs.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and work well with others.

Responsibilities

  • Assures that tank/compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and that requirements of the ticket have been met.
  • Assures that conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written.
  • Assures that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished, no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.
  • Assures that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished.
  • Assures that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do.
  • Assures that Safety Procedures, including testing, are utilized for all torch work.
  • Assures that you and personnel working under your direction are working as safely and as productively as possible maintaining quality control at all times.
  • Assures that a 30 minute cool down period has been accomplished in hot work areas.
  • Assures that fire watches are assigned and maintained in the proper position.
  • Assures that the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.
  • Assures that personnel have work package and the necessary drawings, technical manuals, or specifications required for them to adequately accomplish their work assignments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

The Welders are responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safely, with the highest quality and in a professional manner.

POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training/Experience)
  • Has 5 years of related experience, with at least two years being NAVSEA-related experience..
  • Possesses standard tools for a welder.
  • Able to work different shifts.

Visual Requirements:

Must be able to pass a Standard Jaeger’s Test chart for near vision acuity reading J1 letters or equivalent with or without corrective aids and pass a color vision test using Ishihara’s Tests for Color Deficiency.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assures that tank/compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and that requirements of the ticket have been met. (Example: ventilation, lighting, safety equipment etc.).
  • Assures that conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written. (Example: fuel run back, unsafe working conditions, etc.).
  • Assures that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished, no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.
  • Assures that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (Example: special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc).
  • Assures that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do (Example: JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs and etc.).
  • Assures that Safety Procedures, including testing, are utilized for all torch work.
  • Assures that you and personnel working under your direction are working as safely and as productively as possible maintaining quality control at all times.
  • Assures that a 30 minute cool down period has been accomplished in hot work areas.
  • Assures that fire watches are assigned and maintained in the proper position.
  • Assures that the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.

ACCOUNTABILITY

UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job.

Must have dependable transportation.

Weekend work and/or extended hours may be required.

Must be able to access all work locations, including government and private shipyards and/or vessels.
