Job summary

Delta Constructors in Anchorage, Alaska seeks a Structural Welder to operate welding machines, interpret blueprints, and apply welding specifications for metal structures.

In this role you will weld in multiple positions, calibrate equipment, prepare surfaces, inspect welds, and perform post-welding finishing. A high school diploma and a valid driver’s license are required, with oil & gas experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years in oil & gas or energy industries preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Must pass pre-employment structural welding test.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes blueprints and structural drawings.
• Adheres to applicable welding methods in completion of structural fabrications.
• Utilizes manual and mechanical processes to weld in various positions.
• Calibrates welding tools and equipment according to welding procedure specifications.
• Cleans and prepares metal work pieces using scrapers, chemical solutions and grinders to ensure a smooth and contaminant-free surface.
• Cuts, repairs, and assembles building components to form complete structures.
• Inspects and evaluates welds to ensure they are free of defect and adhere to specifications.
• Conducts post-welding activities such as grinding, cleaning, and polishing of work pieces.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Structural Welder is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of welding machines to join or connect various types of metal parts for metal structures. The incumbent selects weld equipment, interprets blueprints, and determines which specifications to apply.

Essential Job Functions

• Analyzes blueprints and structural drawings
• Adheres to applicable welding methods in completion of structural fabrications

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• Work Experience: Two (2) years’ experience in oil & gas or energy industries preferred
• License/Certifications: Current and valid driver’s license
• Take and pass a pre-employment structural welding test (6", .432" 6g Dual Shield / FCAW) with backing ring

Post Job Offer Requirements

• Take and pass a pre-employment drug test
• Take and pass a Fit-for-Duty Examination

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

• Ability to consistently pass and perform acceptable NDE D1.1 AWS field weld inspection and maintain a project weld reject rate of >2% for fillet or full penetration welds in all positions.
• Knowledge of industrial structural welding methods and techniques
• Knowledge of proper use of equipment such as; welder torch, electrode holder, drill press, gas welding and welding electrode
• Knowledge of Hazardous Materials and Safety Regulations and industry practices related to equipment use and operation
• Knowledge and experience in oilfield operations, preferred
• Ability to conduct appropriate tests to identify and correct faults in framework of structure
• Ability to follow instructions and communicate clearly

Work Environment Characteristics

• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require use of ear plugs on occasion.
• Work condition is outside environment (job site/field site) that may have inclement weather conditions.
• The incumbent is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles and equipment.
• The employee will be required to work and stay on site during the work rotation and must comply with all Company and Client policies including but not limited to attendance and safety.
