Job summary

Short-Elliott-Hendrickson, Incorporated (SEH) is seeking a Structural Vertical Designer in Denver to join our employee-owned Structural team. You will design and detail structural elements for commercial and residential projects, employing REVIT and several structural analysis tools, while collaborating across disciplines.

The role requires an Associate’s degree in civil engineering with structural emphasis; a 3–5 year background is favored.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in civil engineering with emphasis on structural analysis and design.
  • Understanding of basic structural engineering concepts and practices.
  • Working experience with REVIT Structure to produce construction documents.
  • Knowledge of structural steel, reinforced concrete, CMU, and/or structural timber design.
  • Familiar with IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, and NDS design codes.
  • Ability to travel for team meetings and site visits.

Responsibilities

  • Structural analysis, design, and detailing of commercial and residential elements using multiple materials.
  • Prepare structural calculation packages using software like RISA, RAM, and Tekla Tedds.
  • Collaborate with the structural design team on large projects.
  • Use REVIT to produce models and construction documents.
  • Create specifications and perform quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals during construction administration.

Responsibilities
  • Structural analysis, design, and detailing of commercial and residential structural elements, including foundation systems, framing, and lateral force resisting systems, using a variety of structural material types including steel, concrete, masonry, and timber.
  • Preparing structural calculation packages for small to midsize projects using structural analysis software such as RISA, RAM, and Tekla Tedds.
  • Work as part of the structural design team on large, complex projects.
  • Using Autodesk REVIT to produce structural models and construction documents.
  • Using structural design codes including IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, PCI, NDS.
  • Writing and/or compiling specifications for structure elements.
  • Creating quantity take offs and cost estimates for structure elements.
  • Review of shop drawings and submittals during construction administration.
  • Working collaboratively with teammates within the structural group and outside the group on larger multidisciplinary projects/tasks.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis on structural analysis and design.
  • Understanding of basic structural engineering fundamental concepts and practices.
  • Working experience with REVIT Structure to produce construction documents.
  • Applicant should have knowledge of structural steel design, reinforced concrete design, CMU, and/or structural timber design and be familiar with structural analysis software that may include RISA, RAM, LPile, or other similar programs.
  • The applicant should be familiar with IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, and NDS design codes.
  • Ability to travel as needed for team meetings, on-site inspections/visits, etc.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • A positive attitude and ability to work in a collaborative environment with other team members.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of previous structural building design experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/Structural Engineering PE license in Colorado or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Other structural design experience or general familiarity with either water/wastewater, drainage, aviation facilities, or transportation structures.
  • NCEES record, or ability to obtain NCEES record within 12 months of start date.

Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $80,000 and $110,000 based on skill set and experience.
