Job summary

MK Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Estimator for Structural Steel and Misc. Metals in Atlanta, GA. The role focuses on preparing detailed cost projections for material, labor, equipment, and time on steel fabrication and erection projects.

You will review drawings, perform takeoffs for structural steel and miscellaneous metals, and compute total costs including crane and field erection. Leadership of junior estimators and mentorship are key parts of the position.

Qualifications

• 5 to 8+ years of construction estimating experience with a strong focus on structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication.
• Knowledge of AISC standards, AWS welding codes, and the steel erection process.
• Proficiency with estimating software: Trimble PowerFab, Tekla EPM, Fabsuite or Fabtrol.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Review architectural and structural drawings to determine scope, steel grades, and tonnage.
• Perform complete material takeoffs for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, bolts, and welds.
• Compute overall costs for raw materials, shop labor, crane/equipment rentals, and field erection.
• Solicit, compare, and level quotes from steel suppliers, coaters, and subcontractors.
• Issue RFIs to general contractors and engineers to clarify bid details.
• Review and validate estimates prepared by junior estimators, offering mentorship and process improvements.

Senior Estimator for Structural Steel and Misc. Metals prepares detailed, accurate cost projections for material, labor, equipment, and time requirements on steel fabrication and erection projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Blueprint & Specification Analysis: Review architectural and structural drawings to determine the precise scope of work, steel grades, and tonnage needed.
• Quantity Takeoffs: Perform complete and traceable material takeoffs for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, bolts, and welds.
• Cost Calculation: Compute overall costs for raw materials, shop labor, crane/equipment rentals, and field erection.
• Vendor & Subcontractor Leveling: Solicit, compare, and level quotes from steel suppliers, coaters, and subcontractors.
• RFI Management: Issue and track Requests for Information (RFIs) to general contractors and engineers to clarify bid details.
• Leadership & Review: Review and validate estimates prepared by junior estimators, offering mentorship and process improvements.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 5 to 8+ years of construction estimating experience with a strong focus on structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication.
• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) standards, AWS welding codes, and the steel erection process.
• Software Proficiency: Familiarity with industry estimating tools such as Trimble PowerFab, Tekla EPM, Fabsuite, or Fabtrol.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
